Whether it’s recommending a personal favorite book or personally reading a book aloud on the McDowell County Student Pack podcast, she’s always searching for innovative ways to reach young readers and help them discover their own passion for reading. Despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Chessie has continued to be a valuable resource for young readers. Now, reading is something she shares with others - and this year is no exception. ![]() For avid readers like Chessie Hatfield, a clerk at the Welch branch of the McDowell Public Library, the month-long observance is often a much-anticipated opportunity to help others improve their reading skills and bond over their favorite books.įor Chessie, life has come full circle: She’s back where she started, working at the very same library that first supported her love for reading.
